Shadowing Korean? Don’t Just Mimic

안녕하세요 DK 가족 여러분! 저 민용이에요 🤗 Quick question. When you practice shadowing, do you start repeating from the very first line? I ask my students this question really often! A lot of learners play a YouTube video or podcast and copy every sentence right away. You might sound pretty close, but if you don't know what you're saying, you're just copying sounds. So today, I'm going to introduce the shadowing method that I always teach my students! First, just listen. Don't follow along right away! Play the whole clip and try to figure out what they're talking about and how the conversation flows. Then, break it down. Go one or two sentences at a time. This is what we call listening in chunks. Finally, shadow the whole thing. Now try to match the speaker's pronunciation and rhythm. At this point, you already know what it means, so you're not just copying sounds anymore.
